Description:

Demetrius is gazing at the town fountain. A curious Farmer spots him and Demetrius says hello. He comments on the weather and says the fountain is over 30 years old and maintained by someone in Grampleton. He asks how the farm is going, not having seen it since setting up the farm cave for his experiments. In response, the Farmer says:

  • Robin constructed buildings on my farm!
"Robin told me she constructed some new buildings on your farm. I hope they're working out for you!"
  • I'm looking into crafting sprinklers to automate watering.
"That's a smart idea! Automating the process should save you time!"
  • I've been focusing on honing my combat skills and fishing.
"I ran into Marlon recently and he told me you're an Adventurers Guild member. You must show promise as a skilled swordsman!"

Glad the Farmer is doing well, Demetrius switches the topic and asks whether they know where the valley got it's name. The Farmer responds:

  • Does our valley get its name from space stuff?
    "That's correct, [Farmer]!"
  • Because star... dew? Something? I don't know.
"Haha! You tried to guess at least, [Farmer]."
  • Where does the name come from?
    "Allow me to tell you!"

Demetrius says a thousand years ago concentrated meteor showers hit the valley. This was well before the existence of the Ferngill Republic, and their ancestors called the rain of meteors the "Silk Dew of the Stars" for it's appearance like morning dew on a spiderweb. When the Republic was established, the area was named Stardew to honor this old phrase. The increased quality and growth of the Farmer's crops comes from the rich nutrients added by these ancient meteors, and is a big part of the valley's success as a farming region. After this, the Farmer can say:

  • I learned something new! Thanks! (+50 Friendship)

He is happy the Farmer can know more about their home region. The science and history of the location fascinates Demetrius. Realizing the time and how long he spoke, Demetrius lets the Farmer return to their day, wishing them well.

  • You talk way too much. (-375 Friendship)
Embarrassed, Demetrius apologizes for getting too excited and speaking so much. Still embarrassed, he says it's always a pleasure talking to the Farmer. When speaking to him after, Demetrius apologizes again and sadly says he won't over-share again.
