Gunther is the curator of the Stardew Valley Museum and Library. He becomes a giftable friend when you donate 60 items to the museum. This also unlocks access to his room at the Museum.

Gunther is well read and knows much about the local history of the valley. He understands several languages and spends his free time doing archaeological research and studying scholarly articles written by his colleagues. Gunther also has a hobby of collecting ancient bottles.

Schedule

Gunther regularly spends his mornings at the community garden outside the Museum. In the evening when he leaves the Museum he visits areas around town like the nearby bench, the Saloon, or one of the town bridges. In the summer he sometimes visits the beach, and in the fall the town graveyard. On rainy days and Fridays in the winter he will go to the Saloon to keep warm.

	Dwarf Gadget	It's a piece of the advanced technology once known to the dwarves. It's still glowing and humming, but you're unable to understand how it works.
	Golden Mask	A creepy golden mask probably used in an ancient magic ritual. A socket in the forehead contains a large purple gemstone.
	Golden Relic	It's a golden slab with heiroglyphs and pictures emblazoned onto the front.
	Star Shards	No one knows how these form. Some scientists claim that the microscopic structure displays unnatural regularity.

Description: Book Mess	When the player enters the museum, Gunther is lamenting a mess left by Jas and Vincent. Gunther sees the player and greets them, apologizing for the mess. The player can either offer to help Gunther or leave him to do it alone. There is no penalty for not helping, but putting back the books raises Gunther's friendship. (+125 friendship) Afterward, Gunther will comment on Penny spending one of her lessons teaching the children how to return the books in alphabetical order.

Description: Valley Mysteries	Gunther is examining the collection in the museum. He is in awe of the possible knowledge they hold, and gives credit to your efforts gathering them. He asks you to use this knowledge to answer the question: "What is the history of Stardew Valley?" The player can answer with: "Other civilizations once existed here." Gunther: "Yes. Several civilizations lived in this valley many hundreds of years ago. Elves, dwarfs, void spirits... I'm determined to unravel the mysteries surrounding these ancient societies." "Magic at every corner." Gunther: "I concur, Mr./Ms. [Farmer]." "A violent past..." Gunther: "Hmm... yes. Many weapons lie beneath the very soil we stand upon. Perhaps one day, we'll discover the origin of these ancient wars between other races..." "There isn't enough for me to come to a conclusion." Gunther: "Hmm... Allow me to draw my own conclusion in that case, Mr./Ms. [Farmer]." Regardless of the answer, Gunther says Stardew Valley is a magical place with historical importance. He is confident the two of you will make a great discovery one day.

Description: Escort to the Mines	Marlon and Gunther have been discussing entering the mines when the player enters the guild hall. Marlon refuses to escort Gunther into the mines due to the danger. Gunther accepts Marlon's decision and tells the player he wishes to get a hands-on approach to research in the area. Marlon suggests that the player might escort Gunther. There are two options: "Sure. But you must do exactly as I say." (+100 friendship) Gunther thanks you and Marlon reassures Gunther of your skills, but requires him to learn some basic combat stances for safety. Gunther asks you meet him at the mines the next morning. "No. It's far too risky." Gunther will accept the answer. Later he expresses disappointment in the local guild, and explains he's contacted an outside adventurer from "Bellow Hearts" guild to escort him.

Description: Excavation	The player meets Gunther outside the path up to Adventurer Summit. He appears to be psyching himself up for the expedition. The player can say: "Are you nervous?" "Well... yes. I am nervous. This is my first time exploring the mines. I'm honored a revered adventurer such as yourself is escorting me." "Don't worry. I'll protect you." "That's reassuring. I'm honored a revered adventurer such as yourself is escorting me." Either way, the two of you will enter the mines. The player will appear down a ladder in a small area of the mines, one abandoned by the old workers. Gunther says the equipment here was abandoned when miners broke open a space to expose a void spirit nest decades prior. The spot won't work for his research, so you continue further into the mines. This time, you enter a small space with a ladder nearby. Gunther stops you from continuing, noticing a gap in the wall. The player can say: "Stay close to me." or "Let me go in first." But either way Gunther will respond that he'll be right behind you. The room beyond is dark, and Gunther turns on his lamp. The light exposes a group of artifacts untouched by the miners. Before he can unearth them, a slime appears, causing the player to protect Gunther. After the slime's defeat, Gunther says he prefers them petrified then begins to excavate the artifacts. They are Dwarvish in origin and he says he'll be sending you a reward in the mail. The following day a letter with 20,000g will arrive.

Description: The Completed Museum Collection	The farmer enters the museum to find the town's residents looking at all the artifacts they collected. Gunther greets them and says he hasn't seen the museum this packed in years, and it's all thanks to them. He says that as a token of his thanks, he wants to give the farmer a special treasure of his, and they'll receive it in the mail soon. The next day, the player will receive a Galdoran Gem in the mail.
